Renovation of the Courtyard at Jakab Antal House Completed

There was great joy when the Vatican announced Pope Francis’s visit to Romania at the beginning of 2019. Caritas Alba Iulia played an important role in ensuring the smooth organisation of the event, as the Holy Father had lunch and rested at Jakab Antal House after celebrating Mass in the Șumuleu Ciuc saddle. By that time, 80% of the building’s renovation had already been completed, but it was also essential for the courtyard to be made suitable for this special occasion.

For the works carried out between 15 April and 30 June 2019, the Government of Hungary provided financial support of 20 million Hungarian forints through Bethlen Gábor Alapkezelő Nonprofit Zrt.

The implementation of the funded project was coordinated by the Health and Social Care Department of Caritas Alba Iulia, as this department of the organisation operates Jakab Antal House.

Thanks to the funding, the courtyard of Jakab Antal House was successfully renovated. The project included the following works:

1. Rehabilitation of the existing 25-year-old, damaged concrete entrance, car parks and access routes, as well as resurfacing them with asphalt.
2. Complete foundation work and asphalt surfacing of the second entrance and the access routes intended for motor vehicles.
3. Foundation work and paving of the car parks with paving stones.
