Support for Organising the Papal Visit

At the beginning of 2019, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis would visit Șumuleu Ciuc on 1 June. Less than five months were available for the preparations, which was a relatively short period for organising an event of this scale. Numerous officials, professionals, volunteers and institutions were involved in delivering the historic visit. Alongside the many organisational responsibilities, securing the necessary financial resources also presented a major challenge.

The successful organisation of the event was greatly supported by a grant of 50 million Hungarian forints provided by the Government of Hungary through Bethlen Gábor Alapkezelő Nonprofit Zrt.

The funded activities were carried out between 15 April and 30 June 2019. The Health and Social Care Department of Caritas Alba Iulia was responsible for the financial administration of the contribution.

The funded activities included:

1. Personnel expenses for the remuneration of the professionals and coordinators involved in the organisation
2. Material expenses related to organising the visit
3. Investment expenses related to organising the visit
